Easter weekend fun at Airway Lanes in Portage, MI
Posted by airwaylanesmi in General on April 8th, 2010
Spring is in the air! Hopefully everyone had a great Easter with their friends and family. We had a busy week here. Spring break brought in tons of kids for our daily wristband specials.
Saturday WRKR had their annual Rock and Bowl Tournament here, packing the place with 40 teams! As always everyone had a great time, we can’t wait for next year. Thank you to everyone who participated. We hope you had as much fun as we did.
We also wrapped up our Red Wings bowling league with a trip to Saturdays game against the Nashville Preditors. Every one in our Friday and Sunday league loaded up on a charter bus and took the trip to Detroit. It was a great game until they lost 4-3 in overtime. After the game some of our bowlers were lucky enough to go onto the ice and shoot some goals! Make sure to check out the photos on Facebook! We want to thank Tony our bus driver for getting everyone there and back safely, and all of our bowler for making it an awesome trip. We hope to see you all this summer in our Detroit Tigers Bus Trip league!

Grand Opening USBC BPAA Bowling Hall of Fame and Training Center in Arlington Texas
Posted by airwaylanesmi in General on January 30th, 2010
I was lucky enough to go to the Grand Opening Ceremonies of the new Bowling Campus in Arlington Texas Monday January 25th. it was a historic event for the sport of Bowling it is the first time all enities of bowling are housed at the same venue. Bowling Hall of Fame USBC (the governing body of bowling) BPAA (the proprietors of bowling) and the new training center are all located under one roof. The ceremonies took place at 2pm under a spectacular sunny sky with about 2000 people. After all the speakers were through we took a tour thru the campus. In the Hall of fame I was excited to look up 2 Kalamazoo Bowlers who are in the Hall George Howard (who I worked with for 15 years at Airways) and Buzz Fazio. All the facilities are first class all the way. If anyone is ever in Arlington it is a can’t miss attraction. Also in the area is the new Texas baseball stadium and the new Cowboy Stadium. We took a tour of Cowboy Stadium UNBELIEVABLE Six Flags also right there. Any questions about the new campus e-mail me @ gm5626@yahoo.com Marc GM Airway Lanes

The New Age of Bumper Bowling
Posted by airwaylanesmi in General on January 22nd, 2010
Bumper Bowling has been around for about 20 years and like most everything else it has been evolving ever since. Bumper Bowling is blocking the gutters so young children or less skilled players will not throw the ball in the gutter. In the beginning sewer lines were put in the gutters to prevent the ball from going ito the channel. then it evolved into blow up tubes it was a nightmare repairing all the holes and it took a few minutes to blow up a tube that went 60 feet long.Thework was worth it because it brought families with young kids to the bowling alley. Then came permanent bumpers that some bowling alleys would install on a few of there lanes it was an expensive operation. These bumpers were up for all bowlers they were pulled up with a bumper stick and seemed to state of the art. Now 2010 our bumpers at Airway Lanes in Portage Michigan are truley automatic we can program them for individual bowlers they go up and down for each bowler. Also to enhance the experience for the young children we have Ball Ramps called Dragons that kids put the ball on and roll the ball toward the pins. Bumper bowlers can be as young as 2 years old so it can family fun, truely be a family fun activity. Airway Lanes has the automatic bumpers on all 40 lanes.
